Brendan McDermott
Recreation Director

As Recreation Director for the Village of Lewiston, I am looking forward to serving the community by hosting a well-rounded recreation program.  I have a variety of experience working with youth.  The Recreation Director position for the Village of Lewiston is a part-time position; my full-time job is as a School Counselor at Frontier High School, a position I have held for the past nine years.

I am a life-long resident of Lewiston, where I reside with my wife Gretchen and daughter Maisie.  Growing up in the village I spent many nights at the “Red Brick” playing basketball.  This is where I first had interest in working in recreation.  After graduating from Lewiston-Porter High School, I went on to attend Niagara University majoring in Psychology and minoring in Sport & Recreation Management.  I am fortunate to have worked for both the Village and Town of Lewiston Recreation programs while attending college.  I would alternate between the programs, working for the Village from September to May and for the Town from June to August as a Recreation Leader.  I continued working for both recreation programs as I earned my Master’s in School Counseling, also from Niagara University.  During that time, I also worked as a Graduate Assistant for the Niagara University College of Hospitality & Tourism Management.  This was an incredible experience working with the College’s Dean and Professors, all of which are industry leaders in hospitality.  After earning my Master’s Degree, I was promoted to Assistant Recreation Director for the Village of Lewiston.  I continued with that position for a year when I was offered full-time job as an Academic Advisor for Bryant & Stratton College.  The Academic Advisor position led me to my current full-time position as a School Counselor at Frontier High School.  In addition, I have worked as a Park Safety Ranger New York State Park Police at Fort Niagara State Park for several summers.

In May of 2015, I was named Recreation Director for the Village of Lewiston.  I am honored to hold this position and really enjoy this work environment.  As a School Counselor I assist teenagers with personal/social issues, academic challenges and by helping them develop their path in life.  In my new role as the Recreation Director for the Village of Lewiston I get to develop recreation programming for the community that I live in and love.  I work many hours but I have always felt that if it is doing something you love, it does not feel like work at all!

The Village of Lewiston has a strong recreation program in a great community.  The recreation staff is top notch!  The Village Recreation Department has five part-time staff members with over fifty years of recreation experience.  Our staff has expertise in the arts, basketball, hockey, fitness, recreational programming and events.  Members of our staff have degrees in Sport Management, Fine Arts and Public Safety... a truly well-rounded staff.  As Recreation Director, I will rely heavily on my staff to assist in maintaining current programs and to help develop new ones for our community.

New programs will be posted on the Village of Lewiston website at and will be posted and updated on our Facebook account.  Please friend us on Facebook at Village of Lewiston Recreation Dept..

Scott Pedley
Assistant Recreation Director/Art Instructor

My name is Scott Pedley, I have worked for the Village of Lewiston Recreation 25 years.  I was born and raised in the Village of Lewiston. As a youth, I participated in many programs offered by the Village of Lewiston Recreation Program. This is when I first had an interest in working in Recreation. I am graduate of Lewiston-Porter High School where I majored in art and was a two sport athlete (Baseball and Football). I went on to graduate from Niagara County Community College with A.A.S. in Lab Technology and Buffalo State College with a B.S. in Forensics.  During my time at Buffalo State, I had an internship in the Buffalo State College Art Conservation Lab.  This experience gave me considerable knowledge in the preservation of art and has assisted in my abilities as an artist and a teacher of art for the Village of Lewiston Recreation.

I am a self-taught painter and have sold hundreds of original paintings. I have been interviewed by spitball magazine and my paintings have appeared as baseball cards in Helmar Magazine. Currently I am painting portraits of baseball players from the early 20th century. These portraits are being used to make a set of high end baseball cards for the Helmar Brewing Company.

In addition to working for the Village of Lewiston Recreation, I have worked as landscaper for the past 25 years and currently am employed by Lakewood Landscaping.

Jeff Gruarin
Recreation Leader/Basketball Instructor

I am going on my seventh year working for the Village of Lewiston Recreation Department and look forward to the upcoming programs.  Along with my recreation position, I worked four summers with the Village DPW taking pride of being part of the Village of Lewiston.  Lewiston has been my home for 27 years and I look forward to residing here for the future.

I am a graduate of Niagara University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sport Management.  Growing up, hockey has been my passion and I continue to play.  I stepped on the ice for the first time at the age of three and played all over the United States and Canada.  For the past two years I have been working full-time for Tedesco Construction as a project manager.  Tedesco Construction is a local business based out of Lewiston/Niagara Falls specializing in metal buildings.

I look forward to this upcoming year at the Village of Lewiston Recreation Department.  We have a great core group of workers at the Recreation.  In addition to being colleagues, the recreation staff has developed a bond that keeps us eager to start each new season.  It is always a good feeling when you work with youth, see them come back to the gym as college students and even into their post school career.

I hope to see everyone come in and support the Village of Lewiston Recreation Department and help continue to grow it in our wonderful community.

Dave Bevacqua
Recreation Leader/Basketball Instructor

I am a lifelong resident of the Village of Lewiston.  I am a Lewiston-Porter graduate, class of 2001.  I went on to receive an Associate’s Degree in Liberal Arts from Niagara County Community College, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Sport Management from Niagara University.  I have worked for the Village of Lewiston Recreation Department since 2009.  Some programs that I run include Girls Basketball and the Toddler Playgroup.  I have participated in Village of Lewiston Recreation events since I can remember, at ages 6 or 7.  This program has always been in my life and I will work my hardest to create those great memories for generations to come.

Working with the community is something I enjoy and take serious.  I enjoy working with all my fellow employees, and hope to continue to build more relationships.  I like to play all sports, but I especially like basketball and running outside.  Animals are also a passion of mine.  I own 2 dogs, Yorkiepoo (Ko), and a Shih-Tzu (Link).  You will often see me on Center Street trying to walk them.  They are very important to me.  I look forward to the many new programs that will be installed in time, and look forward to seeing and hearing from you all.

Dan Trapasso
Recreation Leader

I have worked for the Village of Lewiston Recreation Department for over three years. While growing up in Youngstown and Lewiston I was a very active participant in local recreation programs. I loved playing team sports, learning new skill sets, and interacting with other kids in the area. I attended Lewiston-Porter High School and went on to complete my Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice at the State University of New York: College at Brockport. While an undergraduate student, I volunteered my time to student teach at Barclay Elementary and was enrolled in the U.S. Army ROTC Program. Furthering my pursuit of education I lived in Boston, Massachusetts to finish my Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice at Northeastern University. After finishing graduate school I moved back to the place that I love, my home, Lewiston, NY.

Working as a Recreation Leader a the Village of Lewiston Recreation Department is one of my part-time jobs. I have worked with young adults while substituting at Grand Island Central School District and currently work as an officer with the Lewiston Police Department. I am also a Lieutenant with our local fire company Lewiston #1. Working with the community and helping others is my passion.

We have wonderful programs at the Village of Lewiston Recreation.  The Recreation offers many programs and events throughout the year. It is a pleasure to provide programs similar to the ones I grew up with and loved. We have a very dedicated staff with various backgrounds and we pride ourselves on providing a safe, friendly and fun environment for both children and adults. I strongly recommend looking at our calendar of events for the upcoming year and hope to see you at the Lewiston Red Brick!

Nick Mansour
Recreation Leader/Basketball Instruction

I have just entered my second year at Redbrick. It is a great place to work. I have been coming to Redbrick for basketball programs for as long as I can remember. Helping to run the basketball programs is my main function at Redbrick. I coach the boys and girls youth leagues as well as helping to run the men's basketball league. I have really enjoyed my time at Redbrick because it has given me the opportunity to give back to the community.

I was born in Niagara Falls and have lived in Lewiston for the past 16 years. I am a graduate of Lewiston-Porter, class of 2013. Outside of work I have many hobbies and interests. I am currently in my senior year at Niagara University. I major in political science. After NU I will attend law school. I also really enjoy playing golf and tennis. I am widely considered the best at basketball, golf, and tennis on the staff.

I encourage everyone to stop by and check out all the new and exciting programs we have this year.
